New JSSRR President's Address

JSSRR President

Kiyotaka Asakura

I have been appointed to the Chairman of the JSSRR(The Japanese Society for Synchrotron Radiation Research) from Oct. 2019 to Sept. 2021. On this occasion, I will have a few words about my policy. First of all, Synchrotron Radiation (SR) Science and Technology requires large accelerators. The JSSRR should be a core group that considers and discusses future SR science and technology.

The overall SR community is composed of the facility members and the users who have their research topics and belong to a variety of academic societies. Many of the users, however, are not a member of the JSSRR yet. To develop SR science and technology, we should have more strong communication and discussion between the JSSRR and the other users outside the JSSRR.) One way is to communicate well with the user communities of each facility and promote the non-member users to participate in the annual meeting of the JSSRR. Hopefully, many non-members join the JSSRR.

The second mission is to have good communication with SR facility members to support their smooth upgrade and construction plans.

The third is to raise the next generation of leaders who show the leadership in SR science and technology. I will enhance their discussion for future SR.

The forth is how to promote data science. SR produces many reliable data that can and should be shared in public. However, we have to consider software, hardware, and rules(laws) to share and utilize the data. We should start the discussion.

Finally, the JSSRR is a representative of the Japanese SR community and makes good communications with worldwide societies. We should bear responsibilities for the development of Asia/Oceania SR science and technology.

I hope collaborations and discussion of all who have interest in SR towards the future development of SR science and technology.

Thank you.
